CALL FOR PROPOSALS
2008/2009
Submission Deadlines:
FALL 2008 -

SPRING 2009
- 4 PM, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2009
These Calls for
Proposals for Student-Faculty Collaborative Grants represents the
2008-2009 round of competition. This program
is administered by The Honors College with funds made available from
the Honors College with funds made available from the Honors College
and the Provost's office. Grants funded under this cycle will become
available either mid-January 2009 or late April (for projects with immediate
expenses in May-June, 2009) or mid-July 2009 (for projects beginning
late summer or fall 2009); funds will be available until May 2010.
The purpose of this fund is to encourage outstanding undergraduate
students to complete an organized research project during their
senior year. In consideration of the time required for most
research, juniors also are eligible for grant awards. The maximum
award per grant will be $1,000.00. Please be candid with budget
submissions, because this determines the number of projects that can
be funded. The award can be used to purchase supplies, equipment,
travel (for research only -- travel grants support travel to
conferences), computer time, or for other expenses related to the research
project. Although not strictly prohibited, stipends or faculty
travel requests are not encouraged, unless special circumstances
exist. Proposals submitted will be evaluated by members of the
Honors College and selected specialists across campus.
Formulating the particular project and writing the proposal are
expected to be joint efforts of student and mentor. Reviewers
will consider quality of the student applicant, quality of the
project, and demonstrated ability of the faculty sponsor to produce
significant research in the proposed area. A final report is
required which should outline progress made in the project; note any
presentations, manuscripts or grant proposals derived from the
project; and include comments concerning the research experience.
Students whose research includes work with
human subjects must apply for approval of their research project by
the ETSU Institutional Review Board (IRB). Students are strongly
encouraged to apply for IRB approval at the time they submit their
Student-Faculty Collaborative Grant proposal. Funds cannot be
released until approval is granted.
Please note that we are now requesting an electronic submission (all
materials, if possible) AND one paper copy that includes a review
and signature by the Chair of the home department of the faculty
sponsor. It is important to consider that all funds awarded for 2008/2009 must be expended
no later than May
15, 2009.
Faculty are limited to THREE (3) Student
Faculty Collaborative grants per year, unless funds are available;
check with the Director before submitting further grant
applications.
An electronic copy of the proposal should be sent to
levyf@etsu.edu. If possible, the electronic submission should be
submitted as a .pdf file (or files) that include all materials
requested. Please email
Dr. Levy if this is not possible. In addition, one complete
paper copy (with Chair’s review and signature) should be sent to:
Attn: Undergraduate Research, The Honors College,
Campus Box 70589
