Jeff Byrd was appointed vice president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway in March of 1996. In October 2002, Byrd became president of Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway. Prior to his employment at Bristol Motor Speedway, he served as vice president of development for Sports Marketing Enterprises, a division of R.J. Reynolds Nabisco.A 30- year veteran in the sports marketing profession, Byrd has been involved in the development and implementation of a multitude of sports and event marketing programs across the sports spectrum.

In Winston-Salem , he served as chairman of the Coliseum and Convention Center board of directors, the Winston-Salem Sports Commission and was active in youth sports organizations. In addition to his sports marketing involvement, Byrd is involved in a number of civic activities. He has served as president and campaign chair of the United Way in Bristol , Bristol Chamber of Commerce and the Bristol Rotary Club.

In addition, he is a member of numerous boards throughout the Tri-Cities region. Among those affiliations are the ETSU Foundation board of directors, King College Board of Trustees, the ETSU Roan Scholars Steering Committee, the Kingsport Community Foundation, the Tri-Cities Economic Development Alliance, NETWORKS—Sullivan County Partnership, the Wellmont Health Systems board, Contact Concern, First Tennessee Bank advisory board and the national board of Speedway Children's Charities.

A native of Winston-Salem , NC , Byrd received his BA degree in history and politics from Wake Forest University . He currently resides in Kingsport with his wife Claudia, the director of the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.

Jeff and Claudia have two children. His daughter Belton Caldwell is a graduate of ETSU in Johnson City , Tenn. His son Christian is employed by GMR Marketing and resides in Charlotte , NC . Jeff and Claudia also are the proud grandparents of Ashton and Weston Byrd. Jeff and Claudia are members of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport .
