Richard K. Storey attended ETSU and later earned his master’s degree from the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking. After being drafted into the Army, Storey was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky.; Fort Polk, La.; and Fort Benning, Ga., before going to Vietnam, where he served with the 1st Cavalry as a platoon sergeant. He was injured in combat on May 6, 1969, and received a Purple Heart.  He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was given a medical discharge on Oct. 31, 1969.

Following a short time in the manufacturing industry, Storey spent the majority of his career in the financial arena. He worked as a lender at The Banking & Trust Co. (now First Tennessee Bank) and Hamilton Bank before serving as vice president and Tri-Cities regional executive of Sovran Bank (now Bank of America). In 1995, he became senior vice president and was promoted to consumer market executive for the company’s South Tennessee market. During that time, he was also named market president for the Tri-Cities. From 2004 until the present, Storey has worked with Citizens Bank as a senior vice president in commercial lending and business development.

Storey is very involved in the community, having been president of the Appalachian Fair Association and a member of the board of directors for the Northeast Tennessee Economic Development Corp. and other organizations.  He has also served ETSU as a member of the Center of Banking Advisory Board, Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association (BASA) board and the ETSU Foundation.
