Alex P. Knoll is the co-founder of Southeastern Apparel Finishing, Inc., which he established in 1987 with Buddy Fontaine. Serving as president and general manager, Knoll has seen the company grow to two facilities and over 300 employees. Located in Johnson City, SAF provides apparel manufacturing companies with stone wash, bleach, rinse, dyeing, and other finishing processes for their clothing products.
Knoll is one of four partners in GolfTenn, LLC, which built and developed the Ridges Golf and Country Club, as well as the surrounding residential community.
He serves on the Ridges board of directors. Additionally, Knoll is a partner and board member of Intronics, Inc., which licenses the manufacture and sales of electronic tensioning devices for the textile industry.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Knoll worked for 15 years with Levi Strauss and Company. Starting in 1971, Knoll held various positions within the business from industrial engineer to plant manager. Upon leaving Levi's at the end of 1986 to start SAF, he was a division production manager.
Knoll is a native of Lynch, Ky., and graduated valedictorian from Lynch High School. He continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University and graduated in 1970 with a degree in business management. Knoll is a partner in Stringer's Family Restaurants, LLC, which serves a family-style buffet daily at lunch and dinner. Stringer's is located in Big Stone Gap and Abingdon, Virginia.
His civic work includes actively supporting Second Harvest Food Bank, Haven of Mercy, Salvation Army, and Good Samaritan Ministries. He also sponsors Victory Road Christian Academy and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Active in St. Mary's Catholic Church, he is a member of the St. Mary's building committee.
Knoll and his wife Susan, a 1979 ETSU graduate, live in Johnson City. They have three children, Laren, Amy, and Marshall.
