Senior Researchers, Research
Associates,
Student Researchers, and Technical Associates.

Membership Levels (Ranks, Requirements,
Privileges, and Expectations):
Senior Researcher
- Term: 5 years (renewable)
- Requirements: Must be a Tenure-Track faculty member at ETSU. PhD required. Should have an established paleontology research program and advise graduate and/or undergraduate students in research.
- Privileges: Full voting rights within the Center. Senior Researchers comprise the Center’s Advisory Board. Consideration for internal funds (if available).
- Expectations: Publish results in peer-review venues, attend professional conferences, advise paleontology students, assist the ETSU Natural History Museum in educational activities, and represent the Center in all these activities. Apply for external grants for paleontological research at least every two years, or as needed. Publications and/or grant applications that are a result of the research conducted through the Center must include the Center affiliation. At the end of each academic year, a full report about/describing papers, abstracts, and grant proposals submitted, published, and/or accepted must be submitted to the Director.
Research Associate
- Term: 3 years (renewable)
- Requirements: Must be an employee or adjunct status with a University, Museum, or other recognized research institution. PhD (or appropriate graduate degree) is preferred but other researchers with extensive experience will be considered if they demonstrate an adequate publication history.
- Privileges: Access to specified labs, offices, research sites, and specimens for research. Eligible for research and travel funds (if available).
- Expectations: Publish results, attend professional conferences, and represent the Center in these activities. Publications and/or grant applications that are a result of the research conducted through the Center must include the Center affiliation. At the end of each academic year a full report about papers, abstracts and grant proposals submitted, published, and/or accepted must be submitted to the Director.
Student Researcher
- Term: 2 years
- Requirements: Must be a graduate student or a highly motivated undergraduate student pursuing paleontological research at ETSU or another qualified institution.
- Privileges: Supervised access to research sites and specimens, labs and offices. Eligible for research and travel funds (if available).

Expectations: Publish results, attend professional conferences, assist with educational activities, and represent the Center in all these activities. Publications and/or grant applications that are a result of the research conducted through the Center must include the Center’s address. At the end of each academic year, a full report about papers, abstracts and grant proposals submitted, published, and/or accepted must be submitted to the Director.
Technical Associate
- Term : 2 years (renewable)
- Requirements: Must be an employee or a trained volunteer of a University, Museum, or other recognized research or educational institution. No degree requirement but must provide evidence of training. Technical Associates work directly with Senior Researchers.
- Privileges: Supervised access to research sites, specimens, labs, and offices.

Expectations: Assist with research and educational outreach, attend professional conferences, and represent the Center in these activities. At the end of each academic year, a summary of Center-affiliated activities must be submitted to the Director.
