Admission Requirements for the Teacher Education with Multiple Levels Program

Please note that the deadline for completed Graduate School Application: 3rd Monday in April.

The first step towards admission into the MAT program is to apply online to the School of Graduate Studies.  

That application includes:

  • Transcripts verifying that you hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning that did not result in a teaching license; and graduated with a minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of a 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • Three letters of recommendation attesting to academic ability and professional aptitude
  • Proof of ONE of the following:
    • 22 composite score on the ACT (21 before 1989)
    • 1020 on the SAT (920 before April 1, 1995)
    • Praxis I tests CORE Academic Skills for Educators: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics (CORE)

You must complete the School of Graduate Studies application and pay the corresponding application fee. All the necessary forms are available on the School of Graduate Studies website, here.

The second step is to apply to the MAT program. 

The requirements for acceptance into the TEML program include the following:

  1. Achieve passing scores on the Praxis II Content Knowledge exam for the specified discipline.  This exam must be passed before acceptance can be granted into the program; therefore students should take the test by the June test date. 
    • Middle Grades Content Knowledge (Test Code 5146)
    • Secondary Content Area Praxis II test(s) for chosen K-12, 5-12, or 7-12 licensing area.

  2. Pass a criminal background check. Click here for more information.

  3. Pass the Teacher Admission Board Interview. Applicants will be notified of dates for Teacher Admission Board interview after the program coordinator receives completed applications from the School of Graduate Studies. This will include a cold writing sample: An essay on your understanding of public education in the United States and the most important current issues facing teachers and school districts today.
