JOHNSON CITY — FASTRACK is an accelerated pre-medical program at East Tennessee State University for students who already have a B.A. or B.S. degree, but who had not previously planned to apply for admission to a medical professional school.
FASTRACK targets those students planning to apply to medical, dental, optometry, veterinary, pharmacy or other similar professional schools, who need to complete the necessary preparatory work as quickly as possible. Most liberal arts majors can complete this program in 15 months.
Medical and other health-related professional schools typically require four basic science one-year sequences including general biology, chemistry, physics and organic chemistry, all with labs. Some schools may require or strongly recommend additional courses such as calculus, probability and statistics, genetics, biochemistry or others. In addition, many professional schools expect students to have a significant background in humanities and social science. These courses are routinely offered at ETSU during every term.
An experienced academic advising team is available to assist students in planning programs at every stage. For further information, contact Dr. Lattie F. Collins, director of ETSU's medical professions advisement office, at (423) 439-5602. The medical professions advisement Web page is located at www.etsu.edu/cas/premed/mpa.htm.
