Reservation Information and Policies

School and group visits are a great way to explore the museum! Activities include school field trips, all-age guided tours, and college tours.

Rates, Advanced Notice:

Group rates are $3 per guest. In order receive this admission rate, groups must consist of 10 or more visitors. Please reserve your group at least 2 weeks in advance.

 

Cancellations and Late Arrivals:

Please call the front desk at 423-439-3662. If you find you must cancel, 48 hours notice of cancellation is appreciated so we can accommodate other potential groups.

 

Lunch and Gift Shop

Please indicate if your group plans to have lunch or visit the gift shop in the notes section of the reservation form so we may accommodate you accordingly.

Programming Information

Field Trips:

Field trips are available for students from the 1st grade through the 12th grade level. The maximum number of students the museum can comfortably accommodate is 75 students for grades 1-5, and 60 students for grades 6-12. This program includes a 30 minute tour of the dig site (weather permitting) and second floor of the museum, a 30 minute self-guided tour of the main exhibit hall, and a 30 minute hands-on activity learning the paleontological techniques of searching for microfossils.

Field Trip Times (Tuesday through Saturday)-

10AM            2PM

Programming (1 ½ hours total) begins at 15 minutes past the top of the hour to accommodate payment and restroom visits. Instructors should plan on spending additional time at the museum for lunches and visiting the gift shop.

 

All-age Group Tours:

Guided tour requests are available to visitors of any age with a reservation. These tours include a tour of the dig site (weather permitting), and museum exhibits on the second floor of the museum (includes an exterior view of volunteers and staff working in the fossil laboratory and the collections storage room). Usually, tours last approximately 45 minutes, but the duration may vary based on the size of the group and number of questions.

*The Natural History Museum reserves the right to combine other groups or individuals to accommodate the needs of other guests.

*Groups must consist of 10 or more guests and schedule in advance to obtain the group admission rate.

 

College Tours:

These tours include a 30 minute guided tour of the dig site (weather permitting) and second level of the museum as well as special access inside of the fossil laboratory, a 30 minute self-guided tour of the main exhibit hall, and a 30 minute hands-on activity learning the paleontological techniques of searching for Gray Fossil Site microfossils. Due to the sensitive nature of the materials in the laboratory, groups are limited in size to a maximum of 30 students.
