Institutional Review Board (IRB)
An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee established to review research
involving human subjects. All research that involves humans as participants requires
IRB review and approval prior to initiation of the study. The primary purpose of IRBs
is to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects involved in research under
their authority. ETSU has established two IRBs to review research from the Main Campus,
Medical Campus, and Quillen VA Medical Center. The Biomedical and Health Sciences
IRB and Social and Behavioral IRB are an important part of ETSU's Human Research Protection
Program.
