The Center for Academic Achievement (CFAA) at East Tennessee State University is a one-stop shop to help students improve their academic success. The CFAA is home to three free academic support programs representing different strategies for improving academic performance:
- Individual Tutoring
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Academic Coaching
The CFAA is located on the first floor of the Charles C. Sherrod Library. Click the tabs below to learn more about our services, or contact us at (423) 439-7111 or learning@etsu.edu.
Tutoring
Trained and successful tutors provide individual assistance with many courses and
subject areas including most general education courses. Students may meet face-to-face
in the CFAA or virtually via zoom. Help is available for:
- Writing Consultations for essays, research papers, discussion posts, and any other written assignment, including graduate level projects such as theses or dissertations.
- Math
- Science
- Most general education courses
Students may book appointments by using Navigate.
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is structured group study that helps students achieve success in historically difficult courses. SI consists of regularly scheduled voluntary group study sessions facilitated by a trained peer SI Leader who has previously taken and succeeded in the course. Data indicates that students who attend SI sessions regularly earn significantly higher grades in the course than students who do not.
Academic Coaching
Academic Coaching gives students the opportunity to become a VIB (Very Important Bucanneer)! VIBS are paired with an academic coach who meets regularly with students to provide support from everything to transitioning to life at ETSU, study skills, success habits, time-management, and more. Academic coaching is for anyone who might benefit from having a peer who can answer their questions and address any issue that may arise during a student's time at ETSU. Visit our Academic Coaching page to learn more and sign up.
