A Message from the Chair
Intercollegiate Athletics is often referred to as the "Front Porch" of the University due to the high visibility that comes when a program is winning and garnering regional and national attention. Considering the influence that athletics can have on the university and the region, our group will be reviewing and evaluating all aspects of the Athletics program, the role athletics plays in the community, and potential partnerships, including ETSU's recent designation as an Olympic Training Site. The methodology and approach of this task force will be to consider athletics in a comprehensive nature and evaluate existing and new programs, facilities, levels of support, competition, and financial issues. To conduct such an in-depth visioning study, we have assembled a cross-section of individuals from the University, Alumni and Community that will look at data, best practices and other benchmarks. These efforts will help ETSU gain an understanding of athletics role in the university as a whole, what possibilities may exist, and where we want to be in five years, ten years and at our 125th anniversary.
