A. Approval of March Minutes – March 27, 2006 minutes were approved after being viewed by attending members.
B. Curriculum Sub-committee –Dr. Martha Pointer

1. Doctor of Public Health Degree
Approved curriculum changes to the program with revision to the DrPH degree curriculum based on the external review of the program.

The original core was increased by two existing three credit courses (PUBH 5350 Biostatistics II and PUBH 5405 Epidemiology II) and a new one hour course, the seminar below- PUBH 6195 Seminar in Public Health. One existing course in the core was also significantly revised (PUBH 6160) and is included below.
 
2. The concentration in Community Health was changed from the selection of courses from a guided list to four specific courses, two of which are new.

2. PUBH 6160 New Course Proposal -revision Systems Approaches to Public Health Issues-3 credit hours

- Approved new course with the following change:
- Add explanation of Core Competencies
- Include heading for Catalog Description

3. PUBH 6195 New Course Proposal - new- Seminar in Public Health- 1 credit hour
- Approved new course with the following changes:
- Specify if repeatable for a maximum number of hours credit
- Add transcript title
- Add explanation of Core Competencies

4. PUBH 6210 New Course Proposal – Population Based Research Methods I: Health Assessment and Surveillance- 3 credit hours

- Approved with the following changes:
- Specify course number in prerequisites
- Add an explanation of Core Competencies
- Add a transcript title
- Include heading for Catalog Description

5. PUBH 6220 New Course Proposal - Population Based Research Methods II:  Innovative Designs and Methods- 3 credit hours

- Approved with the following changes:
- Check on prerequisites
- Add an explanation of Core Competencies
- Add a transcript title
- Include heading for Catalog Description

- Include tuition amounts in Financial Projections
- Change “both of these courses...” to “three of these courses…” in the Student Interest/Demand section
- In the third bullet under Evaluation Plans, the word “that” in the third line needs to be removed, and the word “their” in the following line should be changed to “that”

 
- A new 18 credit hour graduate certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language. (See ENGL TOSEL attachment.)

Dr. McIntosh made an announcement regarding the Capstone, Thesis, Dissertation Awards reception at 2:00 April 28, 2006 in the President’s Conference Room along with a special thank you for professor’s participation in serving on the committees.

Dr. Brown offered thank you to all members present for their participation on the graduate council. Also, the next meeting will be in August, therefore, the council will not meet in May 2006.

Dr. Powers-Beck announced the Quillen Scholarship awards would be given on April 28, 2006 at the same time and place of the Capstone, Thesis, and Dissertation awards.
