Mr. Dean Hurley has an extensive career in law enforcement. After serving in the U.S. Air Force as a security police officer during the Vietnam War, he was hired and served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 38 years, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. During his time with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, he served as commander of statewide enforcement operations and supervised approximately 900 troopers in law enforcement operations and special assignments.
As an alumni from ETSU, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 and Master of Arts degree in 1996. Both degrees were in the field of criminal justice. He is also a recipient of the Nicholas J. Carimi Jr. "Distinguished Criminal Justice Professional Award" from our department.
Lt. Colonel Hurley has been married for over 40 years to his wife Vicky and has one daughter, Jessica. Vicky and Jessica are graduates from ETSU as well.
