Film and Media Studies Minor
Welcome to the website for the East Tennessee State University Minor in Film and Media Studies.
The Film and Media Studies Minor provides an introduction to the discipline through education in the histories, theories, cultures, and aesthetics of film. Students learn the language of film in order to improve their creative and critical skills, whether their goals are production, writing, or working in the distribution and exhibition side of the media industries.
Courses provide students with knowledge of films from different time periods, global locations, and forms ranging from narrative, to experimental, and documentary, as well as other media such as television and games. In addition to the core courses, which build a strong foundation in the discipline, students may take courses based on their areas of interest, including video essay production, video poetry, genres such as the Western, or topical courses such as Women Filmmakers.
The Film and Media Studies minor may be completed fully online. See Course Rotations for more information.
