Department of Literature and Language

The Mockingbird

Submission deadline for The Mockingbird is Friday, November 1st, 2019.

The Mockingbird  is the student arts and literary magazine published as a partnership between the East Tennessee State University Department of Literature & Language and the Department of Art & Design.

The Mockingbird staff and contributors are all students, some submitting their creative works for the first time. Traditionally, the call for literary submissions occurs early during the fall semesters. The Department of Literature & Language does not manage art submissions for The Mockingbird; the Department of Art & Design provides work from its annual student awards. We encourage all ETSU students to participate in creating The Mockingbird.

Matthew Gilbert 2018 Mockingbird EditorSam Campbell is Editor of The Mockingbird’s 47th issue.

Sam lives for three things: writing, learning, and traveling. She graduated in 2014 from ETSU with a B.A. in English and a B.S. in both Psychology and History. She went on to earn a Master of Education from ETSU in 2017 before returning once again to pursue an English Masters.

Sam has worked as an editorial assistant for Sundress Academy of the Arts and also works as a fiction reader for Orison books. Her academic interests include creative writing, composition theory, Modernism, and contemporary literature.

In 2019 Sam's fiction was awarded first place in both the James Still Prize and the Jesse Stuart Prize from Lincoln Memorial University. She is a member of the Golden Key Honors Society and Sigma Tau Delta at ETSU. Sam's fiction has appeared in Unto These Hills, The Mockingbird, Tennessee's Emerging Writers Anthology, and is forthcoming in October Hill.

Thank you for visiting our website; if you are an ETSU student, we hope to receive some of your work for consideration for an upcoming issue of The Mockingbird.
