Garrett Thomas is a multi-genre vocalist, media producer, vernacular musician, composer, educator, entrepreneur, and a proud Maryland native. Professor Thomas has been a featured recording artist for Beat Chamber Records, where he continues to produce and record music, for nearly a decade, and has released multiple studio projects, including singles, EPs and an album. He has also composed music for sync licensing and collaborated on tracks with artists from New York to Nashville.
The core of Professor Thomas’s teaching philosophy is that all music-making experiences are valuable. His 15 years of performance experience range across a wide variety of vernacular and cultivated music experiences, including opera, musical theatre, art song, choral, gospel, spiritual, folk oratorio, jazz, pop, rock, country, and metal. Professor Thomas’s versatile background and balanced pedagogical philosophy allows him to teach and inspire students no matter their prerequisite experience or aspirations, be they rock shows and solo gigs at local pubs or staged productions of musicals and operas.
He specializes in work with singer-songwriters and commercial music singers, specifically in pop, alternative, rock, country and metal genres. He believes in directly preparing his students for the work environment, utilizing audio recording technology to bring his 8 years of professional audio production experience into the applied lesson experience. He is a firm believer of evidence-based approaches to the voice and guiding his students to coordinate a healthy sustainable technique for any genres they want to sing.
Current and former students have found success throughout the Mid-Atlantic in many genres, and have performed in arenas, at music festivals, in touring bands, regional and community theaters, and are also represented by talent agencies in the greater Philadelphia area. His students have also completed numerous studio recording projects, receiving airplay across local radio stations and streaming on all major distribution platforms.
Professor Thomas holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Voice Performance from the University of Delaware School of Music where he studied privately under the tutelage of Dr. Blake Smith and studied voice science and pedagogy with world renowned pedagogue Dr. Noël Archambeault. In his freetime away from music and media production, He enjoys following Baltimore sports teams, coaching high school lacrosse, exploring the great outdoors, enjoying delicious foods, and traveling to new places with his fiance, Alena Carhart. He is also a proud dog parent and enjoys playing with and caring for his dogs Bay and Bella.
