Through our unique program, you will delve into advanced clinical instruction and coursework from day one, preparing you to practice audiology with diverse populations. You'll develop expertise in upholding ethical standards set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) while gaining hands-on experience in various clinical settings.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of audiologists is projected to grow 11% from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations.

The Doctor of Audiology at East Tennessee State University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This program is only offered on-campus (not online).

Learn More About the Au.D. at ETSU

  • Admissions Requirements
    1. Cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale for the last two years of undergraduate study.
      1. The ETSU AuD program does not require applicants to have a bachelor's degree specifically in Communication Sciences and Disorders (or Speech and Hearing Science) and applicants from other degrees (e.g., linguistics, psychology, biology, music, special education, etc) are encouraged to apply as long they meet the course prerequisites for lab sciences and mathematics (see below). 
      2. The AuD application committee will examine the applicants overall undergraduate GPA, particularly grades in the major and minor courses from their Junior and Senior UG years. The ETSU Graduate School requires a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all admitted students. 
    2. At least 8 credit hours in lab sciences (chemistry, biology, or physics).
    3. At least six credit hours of college level mathematics of which three hours must be statistics.
    4. At least six credit hours of of behavioral and or social sciences such as abnormal, developmental, and/or experimental psychology, sociology or anthropology. 

    The ETSU AuD program no longer requires the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for admission.
