Board Requirements

Family Medicine Residency Programs 

Board Exam Requirements 2024-2025

 

All residents completing an ACGME accredited three year Family Medicine Residency Program are qualified to sit for the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOBFP) Certification Exam.

A currently valid and full license to practice medicine is not required for residents to apply for and take the examination.

A minimum of 50 required Family Medicine Certification Activity points must have been met to schedule an exam location and date.

  • One (1) Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA)

  • One (1) Performance Improvement Activity (PI)

  • One (1) additional KSA or PI
