A Message from Our Chair
Jeffrey A. Summers, MD | Chair and Professor, Internal Medicine
Welcome to the Department of Internal Medicine at the Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University. Whether you are here as a patient seeking care, a student seeking an excellent education as a medical student, resident, or fellow, or if you are here as a potential faculty member I believe we have a lot to offer.
For patients we offer a wide range of high quality services. As the region’s leading academic medical practice, we work with the local hospital systems to provide you with the best possible care. Please visit our practice website at www.etsuhealthcare.com for details on our services and for contact information.
For students, residents, and fellows we offer a solid educational experience. Our learners benefit from extensive contact with our experienced faculty at multiple sites. Academic half days provide protected time for lectures, and our Sim Lab provides an excellent learning experience.
For prospective faculty, we offer a collegial and supportive environment with great opportunities for faculty development, research, practice growth, and educational interactions. All of this is in a community noted for excellent public education with nationally recognized programs, low cost of living, no state income tax, and some amazing activities in the region. Ropes courses, water sports including flatwater and whitewater kayaking, white water rafting, mountain biking, hiking the Appalachian Trail or one of our area Rails to Trails pathways are all readily available. Snow skiing and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park are an hour away. For those interested in the Arts we have a wide variety of live performances throughout the region, including theaters, symphonies, dance and eclectic music that ranges from indigenous roots music to classical and everything in between.
However, it is important to remember, whether you are a patient, trainee, or faculty member, it is the people of this department that make it exceptional.
Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you have any questions.
