Congratulations to Dr. Donna Cherry for being awarded the ETSU Outstanding Academic Organization Service Organization Advisor Award for her work with the Master of Social Work Student Association!

Each spring, the Student Organization Resource Center and the Division of Student Affairs are proud to host The Summit: ETSU's premier recognition event for outstanding campus programs and distinguished student leaders which celebrates the superior accomplishments of students outside of the classroom.

MSWSA President, Sydney Crockrell nominated Dr. Cherry, stating:

"Master of Social Work Student Association Outstanding Service Organization Advisor
Dr. Cherry is deserving of the Advisor of the Year Award, because she truly goes above and beyond for her students.  Our Master's program is unique, in that we have cohorts attending classes in various parts of our region (Asheville and Kingsport).  This creates a problem, because not all students are available to attend our meetings, due to travel or time constraints.  Dr. Cherry was instrumental in making sure that our members have the opportunity to view our meetings remotely via WebEx.  Because of this, students who were left out of the meetings entirely in years prior are now able to attend and feel a sense of belonging in the organization! She took time out of her extremely busy schedule to attend trainings and workshops on how to set up this program and use the technology in the classrooms.  She even took time out of her day to make sure the technology worked in the actual classroom we would be using for our monthly meetings (this took several hours, and many attempts).  Not all advisors would be willing to go through such lengths to make sure their students were able to attend meetings, but she did.  She selflessly gives away her time for us nearly everyday.. whether it's answering questions or offering a listening ear.  She is always available to answer any questions we may have as a group, and she never fails to offer excellent advice on any and all matters.  Completely out of the realm of her role as an advisor, Dr. Cherry has also purchased food and other items that our organization has used as an incentive to increase our membership, proving that she truly places her students first.  She is creative, and comes up with interesting ideas and innovative methods to get students engaged, and we could not be more proud that she chose to be MSWSA's advisor this year."
