JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University’s Office of Professional Development will offer its three-month Pharmacy Technician Certification Training Course starting Feb. 4.
The class, limited to 35 students, will train participants to assist pharmacists in handling medications and serving patients. Those who pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) examination become nationally certified, and the course now offers more sessions to accommodate new PTCB requirements.
The course instructor is Cheryl Ollry, a pharmacy technician at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Ollry has over 15 years of experience in retail and hospital pharmacy.
Registration for the class is $400 by Jan. 17; the fee is $500 after that date. The registration fee includes the textbook. WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) funding is available for those who are eligible. Participants will need to bring a four-function calculator and notebook to the class. The PTCB exam requires a separate fee of $129.
Class sessions will be held from 6-9 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from Feb. 4-April 28 in room 309 of Building 2 on the VA campus. The course is non-credit and open to the general public.
