JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – (Sept. 21, 2021) In 2023, mobile apps are projected to generate more than 935 billion U.S. dollars in revenues via paid downloads and in-app advertising, according to Statista. To address this growing trend, Cloud Wise Academy, an East Tennessee State University Innovation Lab affiliate member, is hosting an “Introduction to Mobile Development using Google Flutter” course this fall.
The workshop begins Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 8, with classes on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-8 p.m. In-person participants meet at the ETSU Innovation Lab, located at 2109 W. Market St. in Johnson City. The class may also be taken synchronously online. Registration fees are $350 per participant, and participants may use the code “early 50” through Oct. 15 to save $50.
“Students will learn how use one of the hottest app-building technologies,” said Joe Mckenna, founder of Cloud Wise Academy. “Google Flutter allows you to build beautiful apps and has been used by organizations around the world, such as BMW, The New York Times, eBay and more. This class will open the door for students to build their own apps or develop high-demand skills to further their careers.”
The six-week-long course is designed to teach one of the most in-demand app development technologies. Flutter has been used by over two million developers, according to ZDNet. Flutter is described by Netguru as a software development kit with prewritten code, consisting of ready-to-use and customizable widgets, as well as libraries, tools, and documentation that together serve to build cross-platform apps. Flutter apps can be published on iOS, Android and Windows.
Classes are taught by professional software developer Nathan Noble. He has more than 20 years of real-world experience as a programmer, working with many different languages and platforms as well as creating applications for desktop, web and mobile devices. He has led his software consulting business for over four years.
In addition, Noble has spent many years as an on-the-job programming trainer, so he knows what companies want from their programmers and how to teach those skills to students. He enjoys taking the mystery out of programming and giving students a sense of accomplishment through hands-on training and creation.
“We are pleased to have Cloud Wise Academy bring app development opportunities like this to the Appalachian Highlands,” said Liz Bennett, assistant director of the Innovation Lab. “We’ve heard great feedback from previous students and are excited to see more classes like this offered in the area. We hope that students, community members and entrepreneurs will take advantage of these types of classes that help bring new business opportunities to this area.”
