And the winner is … the Carillon sunrise design!
ETSU students chose a new ID card design last week through an online vote. Out of five options featuring campus and regional landmarks, students selected a design that combined both, with a silhouette of the ETSU Foundation Carillon in the foreground on the right, with the golden sun rising over blue mountains in the background.
Out of 3,052 total votes, the winning design received 1,221 votes, followed by the second-place design – an abstract depiction of the Southern Appalachian mountains – with 828 votes.
The five card designs were created by Cody Ryans and Briar Worley of the ETSU Office of Marketing and Communications (UMC) in cooperation with the Campus ID Services office.
“We wanted to change up the design due to a few technological needs,” said Katy Beall, systems coordinator in Campus ID Services. “Plus, we wanted to highlight the campus so people can better associate the card with ETSU at a glance, with the beautiful mountains, trees, iconic structures, and ETSU’s colors. We want to thank UMC for help with this, as well as our ID Services staff and all the students who voted.”
The new student ID card will include chip technology to allow users to simply tap at readers around campus, and the new design was created to avoid printing on top of the embedded chip area.
The new ID card design will be issued to new incoming undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students during orientation sessions, which begin in April. Students attending orientation will receive their ID cards once they register at the end of the day. Photos can be made in person in the Campus ID Services office, or students may upload their own photos and have them approved before visiting ID Services.
Beall said current and returning students’ existing ID cards will remain valid and functional, and the new cards will be issued only to incoming students and for replacements required due to loss or damage.
Information on a new ID card design for incoming employees will be forthcoming.
