JOHNSON CITY – Students at East Tennessee State University will soon have the chance to show off their impressive scholarship.
The 2023 Dr. Jay W. Boland Undergraduate Research Symposium is set for Monday, April 24, in the D.P. Culp Student Center. It begins at 9 a.m. and runs through the early afternoon.
“This symposium fosters discussion and collaboration in fields that span the natural and social sciences, humanities, business and technology and the arts,” said Dr. Cerrone Foster, an award-winning scientist and the interim director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities. “This symposium also provides experiential and professional experience to students as they prepare for the next level of their careers.”
The annual symposium is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jay W. Boland, a former professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and director of the University Honors Scholars program from 2002-06, and is supported by a memorial endowment from his family.
The event allows undergraduate students to present their research and creative activities, conducted with ETSU faculty mentors, to an audience of professors, staff and fellow students.
The symposium happens in conjunction with the Appalachian Student Research Forum, scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center. The forum is open to students from colleges and universities in the Southern Appalachian region.
“ETSU is home to incredible student researchers, and we cannot wait to engage with them,” Foster said.
