Pinnacle of an academic career
JOHNSON CITY (April 28, 2023) – The East Tennessee State University Board of Trustees approved promotion and/or tenure for faculty members during its quarterly meeting on April 21.
“Faculty are the lifeblood of this institution, and it was a privilege to bring these names before the Board of Trustees for approval,” said Dr. Kimberly D. McCorkle, provost and senior vice president for Academics. “We celebrated their accomplishments with a reception and ceremony, where they were presented with two commemorative coins: one to keep and another to give to a student who has made an impact on their career.”
The following 13 faculty members attained the rank of full professor: Roy Andrade, Appalachian Studies; Lee Bidgood, Appalachian Studies; Colin Glennon, Political Science, International Affairs, and Public Administration; Gary Henson, Physics and Astronomy; Sookhyun Kim, Management and Marketing; Julia Atiles, Early Childhood Education; Stacey Fisher, Curriculum and Instruction; Alissa Lange, Early Childhood Education; Mary Mullins, Social Work; Stephen Blankenship, Medical Education; Jennifer Gibson, Pediatrics; Dima Youssef, Internal Medicine; and Nicholas Hagemeier, Pharmacy Practice.
Elevated to associate professor were the following 25 faculty members: Candace Bright, Sociology and Anthropology; Alyson Chroust, Psychology; Eileen Ernenwein, Geosciences; Catherine McCusker, Chemistry; Chelsea Wessels, Literature and Language; Mohammad Khan, Computing; Jill Channing, Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis; Thomas Davis, Sport, Exercise, Recreation and Kinesiology; Ruth Facun-Granadozo, Early Childhood Education; Elbert Jean Swindle, Educational Foundations and Special Education; Natalia Ward, Curriculum and Instruction; Allison Bourassa, Rehabilitative Sciences; Kara Boynewicz, Rehabilitative Sciences; Shannon Bramlette, Audiology and Speech Language Pathology; Michael Burford, Social Work; Julie Fox-Horton, Cross-Disciplinary Studies; Ashley Sergiadis, Library Administration; Jennifer Young, Library Administration; Jennifer Hall, Biomedical Sciences; Luis Isaza, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; Cuihong Jia, Biomedical Sciences; Robert Tolliver, Pediatrics; Teresa Carnevale, Nursing Graduate Programs; Lisa Haddad, Nursing Graduate Programs; and Michael G. The following six faculty members were elevated to the rank of master lecturer: Junko Arnold, Literature and Language; Adriane Flanary, Communication and Performance; Raluca Negrisanu, Literature and Language; Karen Smith, Music; Jamie Sproles, Communication and Performance; Melanie Storie, History;
The following four University School faculty members were granted tenure: Jennifer Ledbetter, Lisa Reis, Megan Robinson and April Sims.
The following 18 faculty members were granted tenure in addition to their promotions: Candace Bright, Alyson Chroust, Catherine McCusker, Chelsea Wessels, Mohammad Khan, Julia Atiles, Jill Channing, Elbert Jean Swindle, Natalia Ward, Kara Boynewicz, Michael Burford, Julie Fox-Horton, Ashley Sergiadis, Jennifer Young, Jennifer Hall, Cuihong Jia, Teresa Carnevale, and Michael G. Smith.
Also achieving tenure were Samia Afrin, Engineering, Engineering Technology and Surveying; Jeremiah Tate, Rehabilitative Sciences; Deborah Thibeault, Social Work; Justin Gass, Biomedical Sciences; and Kiana Johnson, Pediatrics.
Three faculty members received tenure upon appointment this past year. They include: Elizabeth Blair Jones, Library Administration; Holly Wei, Nursing Graduate Programs; and Walid Alali, Biostatistics and Epidemiology.
