Great Lecture Series highlights expertise of ETSU faculty

The new lecture series features the work of ETSU faculty members who have recently been promoted to full professor.

The inaugural East Tennessee State University Great Lecture Series will begin on Friday, Oct. 13, with a lecture featuring ETSU faculty members Dr. Alissa Lange and Dr. Mary Mullins.

The new lecture series celebrates and showcases the work of faculty members who have recently been promoted to full professor at ETSU. Faculty play an integral role in the mission of ETSU through their teaching, research and service, and this new lecture series provides them an opportunity to share their work with the broader community.

The first installment on Oct. 13 will begin at 2 p.m. in the East Tennessee Room, located in ETSU’s D.P. Culp Student Center. It is free and open to the public.

“ETSU has incredible faculty who have a wealth of expertise and knowledge,” said Dr. Kimberly D. McCorkle, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “Being promoted to full professor is an important milestone in their academic journeys, and we want to give these faculty members the opportunity to highlight some of the lessons they have learned along the way.”

Lange serves as director of ETSU’s Center of Excellence in STEM Education and professor in the Clemmer College of Education and Human Development. Her lecture is titled “That One Teacher Who Made All the Difference.”

Mullins is chair of the Department of Social Work and professor in the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences. She will deliver a lecture titled “Right Time, Right Place and Right People.”

The next installment in the Great Lecture Series will be Dec. 8, with lectures by Dr. Lee Bidgood, Dr. Gary Henson and Dr. Nick Hagemeier. The spring lectures are set for March 1 and April 12, 2024.

ETSU professors regularly produce premiere scholarship, with faculty and staff often winning competitive grants and fellowships.
