You’ve probably heard of East Tennessee State University’s study abroad at Harlaxton College in England, the University of Limerick in Ireland and a few others that are pretty well-known.

There are so many that we can’t list them all, but here are a few more programs that perhaps you haven’t heard of yet, some of which are new or unique:

  • The University of Agder in Kristiansand and Grimstad, Norway, offers semester exchange and summer direct enrollment. The summer program focusing on the European Union is great for political science and history majors. Kristiansand is where Norwegians go on vacation and features a walkable downtown with beach access.
  • The University of the West of Scotland in Paisley and Ayr offers semester direct enrollment in a wide variety of courses, including some that can be difficult to find abroad, in such fields as STEM, broadcast production, commercial music, education, digital media and animation, theater, and sport coaching and development. The location is called “the best of both worlds – not in a big city but easy to travel to one.”
  • The University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand, offers semester-long enrollment with something for most majors, including unique courses in Maori culture, language, health and more. And the cost is less than for other New Zealand options.
  • The University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management in Canada is great for marketing, accounting, economics and finance majors, who can take either core or elective courses. Canada’s capital city offers museums, nightlife, cultural festivals, hockey games and outdoor activities, including the opportunity to ice skate in winter on the Rideau Canal Skateway – the world’s largest skating rink.

In addition to these, ETSU Education Abroad has partnerships with organizations that provide hundreds of additional programs in locations around the world that are not represented through ETSU’s faculty-led programs and partner universities. These partnerships also allow service learning and internship opportunities not as common as in other program types. They include:

  • ETSU is one of more than 25 member institutions of KIIS (Kentucky Institute for International Studies), which operates faculty-led programs in such countries as Argentina, Austria, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, Tanzania, Turkey and many more. Its programs are already planned – students just pay and go – and unique courses are based on locations, including locations not offered by other providers.
  • API Abroad (Academic Programs International) offers courses in art and design at Parsons Paris in France, Polish language and culture studies in Krakow, intensive language classes in Spain and France, and more. This summer, students are even studying sports management at the Paris Olympics!
  • Just a few of the options students may find through ISA (International Studies Abroad) are Arabic studies, international relations and language in Meknes, Morocco; language, literature and culture in Cusco, Peru; Veritas Christian Study Abroad in Rome; design, fashion and digital arts in Milan; medical Spanish immersion in Buenos Aires, Argentina; multi-disciplinary studies with fieldwork in Amsterdam; and filmmaking and acting for film in Florence, Italy.
  • TEAN (The Education Abroad Network) focuses on study abroad in the Asia Pacific region, with opportunities to study esports in Seoul, South Korea; tropical marine biology in Australia; and more.
