Meet the new ETSU ROTC 2024 Hall of Fame class
East Tennessee State University’s ROTC Program, a respected institution with a legacy of developing military leaders for over 50 years, has inducted its 2024 Hall of Fame class.
The ceremony, honoring exceptional individuals who have demonstrated remarkable dedication and sacrifice, happened in Taylor’s Salon on the lower level of the Carnegie Hotel, across from the main campus of ETSU. The event is free and open to the public.
This year’s inductees include James and Virginia Reed, whose commitment to the ETSU ROTC program and the Eddie Reed Ranger Company has strengthened the Buccaneer Battalion community, and 1LT Daniel Mullins, an ETSU alumnus who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country.
James and Virginia Reed:The Reeds have shown steadfast dedication to the ROTC program at ETSU. James Reed has traveled to prestigious competitions, such as the Sandhurst Military Competition at West Point, to cheer on ETSU’s Ranger Company. Each year, it is the family’s honor to present the Ranger of the Year award at ETSU’s ROTC Honors Day. The Reeds are a constant presence at commissioning ceremonies, ROTC tailgates, military balls and more.
1LT Daniel Mullins: A graduate of ETSU in 1966, 1LT Mullins was a distinguished cadet who excelled as ROTC cadet lieutenant colonel and commander of the 4th Battalion. Mullins was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served in the United States Army, where he commanded an Armored Reconnaissance Unit in Vietnam. He was killed in action on Aug. 31, 1967, while heroically leading his unit and saving the lives of his soldiers under attack.
