Athletics Coach
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of sport. Knowledge of coaching and the ability to work successfully in a team environment. Knowledge of NCAA, NIRA, and other applicable rules and regulations. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to identify and engage talent for recruitment. Ability to communicate effectively with external audiences. Ability to develop student-athletes. Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate others.
Role Description
Responsible for the recruitment and development of student-athletes to build a successful varsity athletic program. This role may supervise the work of others; however, this is a secondary function of the role. Competencies for this role are usually gained through participation in a program at the varsity level, formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities.
Typical Functions:
Provides direction for student-athletes at practices and games.
Enforces policies and procedures and implements disciplinary action when appropriate.
Monitors student-athletes’ academic progress and acts as an advocate for student-athletes.
Identifies resources for student-athletes necessary to assist in their athletic and
personal development.
Serves as an ambassador for the University.
Develops overall team strategy and works with personnel to develop and implement special
team’ strategies.
Identifies talent and performs recruitment activities for student-athletes.
Identifies and develops relationships with donors and participates in major fundraiser
events.
Performs budget management functions.
Ensures program compliance with NCAA, NIRA, and conference rules and regulations.
Levels
