Role Description

Responsible for organization and communication of campus and user needs for use on capital projects which include new construction, major maintenance, demolition, and renovation. It also includes project management concerning the design and construction of in-house campus projects. This role ensures that facilities meet campus needs and standards to ensure functionality and maintainability. The Design Professional provides consultation for all related activities of design, renovation, and construction of campus sites and buildings.

Levels

Facilities Services Design Professional 1 Participates and provides input in design and construction project plans. Reviews assigned sections of plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with campus standards. Performs site observations of ongoing construction projects. Creates reports on project site status. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Appropriate licensure in functional area (i.e. licensed architect, landscape architect, engineer, or interior designer) preferred.

Facilities Services Design Professional 2 Provides project management, schedule, and budget oversight for construction projects. Performs site observations and reports the status of ongoing construction projects. Determines appropriate resolutions to areas of concern. Reviews design drawings for technical accuracy and compliance with campus standards. Creates campus standards for areas of technical competence. Participates in conceptualizing estimates and scheduling potential future projects. Assists with program documents for future projects. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Appropriate licensure in functional area (i.e. licensed architect, landscape architect, engineer, or interior designer) preferred.

Facilities Services Design Professional 3 Coordinates and provides project management oversight and contract administration for construction projects. Reviews design drawings and coordinates building support team review. Creates campus standards for areas of expertise. Performs site observations of ongoing construction projects. Creates conceptual estimates and schedules for potential future projects. Creates program documents for future projects. Contributes to campus and master planning. Mentors less experienced professionals. Solves problems in the field by managing construction problems or conflicts. Utilizes extensive interdisciplinary knowledge to manage programs and projects. Leads and influences campus planning, design meetings, and master planning. Prepares project and funding documentation and negotiates approval with university officials. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Appropriate licensure in functional area (i.e. licensed architect, landscape architect, engineer, or interior designer) preferred.
