Facilities Services Trades Specialist 1

Auto/Vehicle Mechanic
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on automobiles and light trucks.

Carpenter
Performs general commercial construction work, including the repair, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and structures.
Operates woodworking machines to saw, plane, drill, or mortise lumber for doors, cabinets, shelves, molding, and related fixtures.

Heavy Equipment Operator/Truck Driver
Operates specialized heavy equipment.
Operates vans, recycling trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, bobcats, skid steers, snow plows, tractors, forklifts, and trenchers.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
Loads and unloads heavy equipment.
Operates crane and aerial lifts.

Landscaping Specialist
Performs preventative maintenance and emergency repair on irrigation systems including winterization.
Assists with the installation of new systems.
Designs and installs new irrigation systems.
Monitors controls and settings for irrigation system.

Light Equipment Repair
Performs repairs and routine maintenance on light equipment and machinery.
Performs emergency repairs on light equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, blowers, multipurpose vacuums, chain saws, hedge trimmers, utility carts, pressure washers, and snow removal equipment.

Locksmith
Prepares, installs, and repairs common locking devices such as cylindrical, tubular, rim, and mortise locks and devices.
Installs and adjusts door closures and thresholds; shimming hinges as required.
Repairs locking hardware of furnishings such as desks, files, and display cases.
Performs limited lock picking and automotive servicing.

Painter
Prepares, patches, repairs, and paints walls, buildings, ceilings, and other building components.
Prepares and paints interior and exterior surfaces to meet deadlines.
Pest Control Worker
Applies pesticides and chemicals in the treatment of pests in and around buildings.
Places bait, sets traps, and fumigates rooms and buildings.
Applies a wide range of chemicals and mixes baits.
Patrols trap lines and nets to inspect settings, remove catch, and reset or relocate traps.

Plumber
Performs plumbing and heating duties including layout, repair, and installation.
Cuts, threads, lays, connects, insulates, and color codes water, sewage, drainage, gas, air, vacuum, and low pressure steam lines and installs plumbing fixtures.
Diagnoses and corrects plumbing breakdowns by repairing or replacing such items as broken, leaky, or corroding lines, pumps and air, water, steam, and gas valves both above and below ground.

Welder
Performs welding activities using herliarc, shielded metal arc, and oxy-acetylene welding equipment.
Performs welding, soldering, and smoothing of surfaces on copper and stainless steel to include manual welding and semi-automatic welding.

Education/Experience:

Typically requires a high school diploma and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services Trades Specialist 2

Auto/Vehicle Mechanic
Diagnoses and repairs complex automotive repair.
Provides miscellaneous mechanic works including but not limited to body work, diagnosing, disassembling, and assembling components and engines.

Electrician
Performs general electrical work on electrical systems, facilities, appliances, and related electronic controls.
Determines methods and sequence of operations required to locate, design, install, repair, and modify electrical systems.
Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and reassembles a variety of electrical appliances and equipment by following established procedures.

Vehicle Operator
Drives a vehicle intended for the public transportation.

HVAC Mechanic
Installs, repairs, maintains, adjusts, overhauls, and services refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance on air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
Assists in the repair and overhaul of pumps and air compressors.
Modifies and adjusts systems and units to include thermostats and control systems.
Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal products and equipment

Locksmith
Performs code cutting from depth and spacing records using code machine to originate desired keys.
Performs advanced lock picking skills, bypass methods, and alternate entry into doors.
Limited automotive openings.
Duplicates and originates difficult keys.
Services all types of furniture locks.
Mortises doors for commercial mortise hardware.
Installs surface mounted vertical rod devices.
Installs, services, and programs electronic stand along combination locks.
Originates simple sub-master changes for both interchangeable cores and other standard commercial key systems.

Metalworker
Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal products such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings.
Sets-up and operates fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.

Painter
Performs specialized and advanced painting work.
Prepares cabinets, casework and millwork prior to painting.
Uses multiple methods of painting including a variety of spray equipment and is an expert with numerous finishes and surfaces including metal.
Patches, replaces, and paints architectural surfaces such as plaster and stucco.
Blends colors for paints and stains.
Repairs and replaces inlay.
Replaces or applies new veneers and laminates to furniture.
Services and repairs shop equipment.

Pest Control Worker
Performs advanced pest control work identifying weeds, insects, and other pests and mixing exterminating agents such as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
Applies chemical solutions and sets mechanical traps to kill pests with minimal supervision.
Treats termite-infested and fungus-damaged wood in buildings.
Examines buildings to determine means of reaching areas, cuts openings in buildings, and cores holes in concrete to gain access to infested areas and apply treatments.
Measures area and calculates chemical mixtures.
Works with contracted companies to inspect, test, record, and remove asbestos on campus.
Reports structural, electrical, or mechanical problems to supervisor.

Welder
Performs and coordinates welding activities using herliarc, shielded metal arc, and oxy-acetylene cutting torches and plasma cutters.
Makes repairs and welds to mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, aluminum piping, stainless steel piping and cast iron.
Designs layouts, positions clamps, and assembles work pieces in jigs or fixtures.
Uses advanced welding methods such as TIG, MIG, Stick, Brazing, and Soldering.

Education/Experience:

Typically requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Vocational or technical training may be required. May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services Trades Specialist 3

Arborist
Provides care and oversight for maintenance of campus trees.
Develops and implements strategies to improve the aesthetics, quality, and diversity of tree species.
Develops a tree inventory succession plan.

Carpenter
Performs highly skilled general commercial construction work, including the repair, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and structures.
Constructs and repairs cabinets, countertops, shelves, doors, windows, and other wooden articles.
Assembles hardware, trim, and finishes.
Duplicates complicated moldings.
Constructs complicated casework per drawings.
Repairs antique furniture, repairs inlay, and replaces or applies new veneers and laminates to furniture.

HVAC Mechanic
Installs, repairs, maintains, overhauls, cleans, and services various types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Repairs and overhauls pumps and air compressors.
Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs advanced sheet metal products and equipment.
Transfers and lays out outlines and dimensions to sheet metal.
Solders parts for assembly.
Uses triangulation formulas to lay out complex sheet metal fittings.

Education/Experience:

Typically requires a high school diploma and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Vocational or technical training may be required. May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services Trades Specialist 4

Boilermaker/Steam Plant
Checks boiler controls.
Troubleshoots operator problems.
Performs daily maintenance on precipitator, boiler controls, and electrical equipment.
Builds, repairs, tests, and maintains all types of boilers, pumps, turbines, compressors, and fan housings.
Tests for structural soundness and inspects fittings, feed pumps, safety and check valves, water and pressure gauges, and controls to ensure boilers operate safely and efficiently.
Reads and uses blueprints to determine locations, positions, or dimensions of parts.

Electrician
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, facilities, appliances, and related electronic controls; devices including complex and technical assignments.
Diagnoses and corrects malfunctions in complex equipment and circuits.

HVAC Mechanic
Maintains, adjusts, modifies, overhauls, services, and repairs heavy-duty air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
Adjusts and repairs hydronic systems, all types of pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls.
Fabricates and installs heavy rigging.
Reads and interprets pressure, temperature, and gauge readings to determine if repairs are needed.
Calibrates and makes settings and adjustments to safety controls, operating devices, gauges, and thermometers.

Line Installer
Constructs, installs, maintains, and repairs high voltage overhead power lines and support facilities.
Installs, inspects, and maintains sports facility lighting.
Inspects and repairs equipment to maintain proper working order.

Plumber
Performs advanced plumbing and heating duties including layout, repair, and installation.

Education/Experience:

Typically requires a high school diploma and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Vocational or technical training may be required. May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services Trades Specialist 5

Line Installer
Installs, operates, and maintains high voltage overhead distribution systems and components, underground power lines, and support facilities.
Maintains electrical service to campus properties.
Responsible for continuity of projects.
Inspects equipment regularly to maintain safety of campus community.

Education/Experience:

Typically requires a high school diploma and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Vocational or technical training may be required. May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services Trades Supervisor

Supervises and makes decisions on day-to-day operations of skilled trade unit(s) in a facility services specialty area.
Manages personnel including training, performance management, and personnel action recommendations.
Schedules and coordinates the delivery and distribution of manpower, materials, and equipment.
Provides guidance and expertise in specialty area.
Enforces policies, safety regulations, and applicable codes.
Inspects quality of work that is in progress and completed.
Ensures the distribution, repair, and maintenance of materials, supplies, and equipment.
Orders materials and provides guidance in estimating the amount and type of materials, supplies, and equipment required for projects.
Calculates costs for billing purposes.
Maintains records and prepares reports.
Makes improvements to processes that do not affect budget.
Makes recommendations to improve processes that may have a wide scope or an impact on the budget.
Works with contractors on various campus projects.

Education/Experience:

Typically requires a high school diploma and six years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience. Specialized licensure or certification may be required. May require applicable licenses and/or certifications.
