MEDICAL CLINICAL MANAGEMENT
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of healthcare management principles. Knowledge of relevant medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care standards relevant to a university clinic or hospital environment. Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations, such as HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards. Ability to develop and implement operational strategies that align with the clinic's goals and the university’s mission. Ability to stay informed of changing healthcare trends, technologies, and regulations, adapting clinic operations as needed.
Role Description
Responsible for leading and managing the operations of a medical clinic, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and efficient clinic operations. This role provides strategic guidance and direction for clinic staff, including clinical and administrative teams, with increased accountability for financial performance, regulatory compliance, and patient satisfaction. Management duties include the direct oversight of clinic personnel, fostering a patient-centered environment, and optimizing resources for effective service delivery. This position accomplishes goals by overseeing clinic operations, managing resources, and directing staff in alignment with healthcare standards and organizational objectives.
Typical Functions:
Oversees daily clinic or hospital operations, including patient scheduling, workflow
optimization, and resource management.
Ensures high standards of patient care and safety protocols.
Manages clinical and administrative staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Ensures compliance with credentialing and licensing requirements for clinical staff.
Manages clinic budgets, billing processes, and revenue cycle, including coding and
insurance reimbursements.
Monitors financial performance and identify opportunities to improve clinic profitability.
Develops and implement strategies to enhance patient satisfaction, including feedback
systems and quality improvement initiatives.
Remains abreast of changes and new laws and regulations for the healthcare facilities
where they work to adequately comply with those regulations.
Oversees the implementation and maintenance of electronic health records (EHR) and
other healthcare technologies.
Levels
Medical Clinical Management 1Oversees daily clinical operations and/or student health/counseling center and supervises clinical and administrative staff. This role is responsible for managing patient flow, coordinating schedules, and ensuring compliance with healthcare policies. Entry-level managers support the implementation of clinical protocols and patient care initiatives. Education/Experience:Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Relevant licensure or certification may be preferred. |
Medical Clinical Management 2Provides leadership for clinic operations and/or student health/counseling center, including patient care, resource allocation, and staff management. This role is accountable for financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Directly manages clinical teams and administrative functions to optimize clinic performance. Education/Experience:Typically requires an advanced degree and two to four years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Terminal degree preferred. Applicable certification or licensure required. |
Medical Clinical Management 3Responsible for the overall strategic leadership and long-term planning of clinical services across multiple clinics or medical units. This role ensures the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency, with increased accountability for budgeting, clinic expansion, and strategic partnerships. Education/Experience:Typically requires an advanced degree and five to seven years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
