Operations Management

Role Description
Responsible for providing leadership, direction, training, and management for activities, resources, and operations. Provides strategic expertise and guidance, and has increased accountability. Management level roles have the management and development of people as a major accountability and have direct reports. This role accomplishes goals through overseeing their areas of responsibility, planning, managing resources, prioritizing, and directing the responsibilities of employees.
Typical Functions:
Develops and manages budgets, provides expertise and analysis for long-range strategic
planning.
Translates strategic plans into operational plans.
Ensures efficient and effective operations within established guidelines, objectives,
and goals.
Provides interpretation of rules and regulations and is responsible for ensuring compliance.
Assesses risk and makes determinations on the assumption of risk.
Sets and develops processes, procedures, initiatives, and identifies alternative methods
to accomplish goals while maintaining compliance.
Resolves escalated problems referred by staff.
Manages operations including staff supervision, development, and leadership.
Develops procedures for operational services.
Anticipates, identifies, researches, and resolves complex problems.
Serves on the leadership team.
Establishes and implements the annual operating budget.
Ensures operations and activities comply with the university and external policies
and regulations.
Consults with leadership to develop new operational programs or services upon identification
of challenges.
Levels
Operations Management 1Responsible for the operational management, administrative direction, and coordination
of staff and activities of an operational and auxiliary unit, or a unit with multiple
specialized functional areas. Education/Experience:Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and five years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience. Applicable certification may be required. |
Operations Management 2Responsible for the operational management, administrative direction, training, and
coordination of staff and activities of an auxiliary department. Education/Experience:Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and seven years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience. Applicable certification may be required. |
Operations Management 3Responsible for the operational management, administrative direction, and coordination
of staff and activities of multiple auxiliary units or large complex functional areas. Education/Experience:Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and six years or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and eight years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience. Applicable certification may be required. |
Operations Management 4In addition to the functions of level 3, responsible for the management of other managers
of multiple units. Education/Experience:Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and six years or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and eight years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience. Applicable certification may be required. |
Operations Management 5Provides senior-level leadership that is responsible for the operational management, administrative direction, and coordination of the staff and activities of large and complex auxiliary units. Education/Experience:Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and seven years or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and nine years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience. Applicable certification may be required. |
