Public Safety Emergency, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EEHS) Specialist
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of a specialty area, which may include knowledge of a scientific field. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Skilled in observation and investigation techniques. Ability to assess situations and make a determination to stop work where appropriate. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Ability to develop and deliver training programs. Ability to follow proper PPE (personal protective equipment) guidelines. Ability to work under hazardous and emergency response conditions. Ability to prioritize work in situations requiring a quick response.
Role Description
Responsible for supporting and/or managing programs that protect the safety and health of the campus community by recognizing, eliminating, and controlling safety and health hazards in the environment and preparing for and managing emergencies. These roles are responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and regulatory agencies, and may have personal liability for compliance.
Levels
Public Safety EEHS Specialist 1Provides support, coordination, and maintenance functions for specialized program. Education/Experience:Typically requires an associate’s degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Applicable certifications may be required. |
Public Safety EEHS Specialist 2Serves as a program administrator and subject matter expert for standard EEHS programs;
including, but not limited to, hazardous materials, occupational health and safety,
and emergency preparedness. Education/Experience:Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced degree preferred. Applicable certifications may be required. |
Public Safety EEHS Specialist 3Acts as a subject matter expert and/or serves as a supervisor of a specialty area. Education/Experience:Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced degree preferred. Applicable certifications may be required. |
