TEACHING AND LEARNING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of early childhood education. Communication and organizational skills. Ability to teach children while educating college students on theory, lessons and development. Ability to teach, mentor, and evaluate college students.

Role Description

Responsible for providing classroom management, care of children, curriculum planning, teaching and mentoring of college students in a learning lab environment. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations. Competencies for this role are typically gained through specialized education and training.

 Typical Functions:

Establishes and maintain a positive and organized classroom environment that promotes learning and respect.
Implements behavior management strategies to address student needs and ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.
Provides attentive care and supervision of children to ensure their safety and well-being during learning activities.
Monitors children's emotional and physical development, addressing any concerns with appropriate interventions.
Develops and implements age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that align with educational standards and objectives.
Adapts instructional materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of children and enhance their learning experiences.

Levels

Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Education 1 Supports classroom by providing for personal needs of children in classroom setting. Ensures welfare, health and safety of children. Administers first aid when needed. Supervises children inside and outside of the classroom during playtime. Communicates with parents about children’s daily routines and progress; maintains daily records. Maintains classroom, passes along concerns to lead; provides support by cleaning, disinfecting toys and equipment, and restocking supplies. Assists in planning and implementing daily curriculum, Plans, organizes, and implements developmentally appropriate activities. Supervises volunteers and student employees following daily schedules and procedures. Education/Experience: Typically requires an associate’s degree and one year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Child Development Associate credential, and CPR and First Aid certifications.

Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Education 2 Collaborates with teachers to provide high quality care, supervision, and education for children. Prepares developmental lesson plans and directs children in developmentally appropriate activities implementing approved curriculum. Teaches readiness skills and redirects non-constructive behavior patterns in children. Observes and evaluates cognitive, social, personal awareness, and communication skills, perceptual motor development, and emotional well-being of children. Maintains records. Determines developmental goals for children including children with disabilities or special needs. Conducts parent-teacher conferences. Supervises staff and students and is responsible for classroom staff coverage. Implements assessment and documentation practices to support curriculum design and evaluation. Plans and coordinates community outreach and family participation events. Coordinates field experience for students completing coursework, models appropriate interactions and teaching strategies, and evaluates students. Provides direct trainings, supervision, feedback and mentoring for students and pre-service teachers; models effective teaching, supervision, and planning practices for students and pre-service teachers. Responsible for overall well-being of children. Implements measures to reduce infectious disease. Dispenses prescription medicine when needed. Education/Experience: Typically requires an associate’s degree and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Child Development credential, CPR and First Aid certifications.

Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Education 3 Leads classroom of children while implementing lesson plans for college students to observe. Provides day-to-day classroom management. Demonstrates teaching skills, strategies and techniques to college students and pre-service teachers. Demonstrates how to provide developmentally appropriate and safe environments and guidelines for children. Plans and implements meaningful curriculum and lessons. Coordinates community events. Supervises teaching staff. Manages competing demands between children in classroom and student observers/teachers. Develops curriculum. Gives thoughtful feedback and develops student teachers. Models and demonstrates appropriate teaching and classroom management skills. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Child Development credential/State Teaching Licensure, CPR and First Aid certifications.

Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Education 4 Assists with the management of daily operations and personnel in a child development center. Supervises teaching staff. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Child Development credential/State Teaching Licensure, CPR and First Aid certifications.

Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Management 1 Manages daily operations, personnel, and budget of a child development center and/or large program within a child development center. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced degree preferred. Child Development credential/State Teaching Licensure, CPR and First Aid certifications.

Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Management 2 Manages operations, personnel, and budget for multiple child development centers and/or a large multi-faceted department. Manages other managers and professional staff. Education/Experience: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and five years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Child Development credential/State Teaching Licensure, CPR and First Aid certifications.
