TEACHING AND LEARNING INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of pedagogy and/or andragogy. Knowledge of learning theories. Knowledge of instructional design models, processes, and instructional development methods. Knowledge of instructional design software technologies. Knowledge of accessibility standards and universal design principles. Analytical skills. Writing and editing skills. Ability to develop courses and trainings. Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through visuals.
Role Description
Responsible for designing and developing learning solutions and environments to address identified challenges. The role designs and develops teaching and learning programs that make use of various technologies to support instruction and deliver programs that incorporate best practices and effective teaching and learning strategies. The primary focus of this role is not on delivering training, although that may be a secondary function. Competencies for this role are typically gained through formal education and specialized training.
Typical Functions:
Conduct thorough assessments to identify specific learning challenges and needs within
the target audience or organization.
Gather and analyze data through surveys, interviews, and observations to inform the
design of learning solutions.
Develop comprehensive teaching and learning programs that align with identified needs
and educational objectives.
Create structured lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that incorporate
best practices in pedagogy.
Identify and integrate appropriate educational technologies that enhance learning
experiences and support instructional goals.
Stay updated on emerging technologies and tools to evaluate their potential applications
in learning environments.
Work collaboratively with subject matter experts, educators, and stakeholders to ensure
the relevance and accuracy of learning content.
Facilitate workshops or meetings to gather input and feedback during the design process.
Levels

Education/Experience:Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced degree preferred. Applicable certification may be preferred. |
