Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in preparation of human cadavers for anatomical teaching purposes, repair and maintenance of teaching equipment, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares cadavers for teaching purposes, which includes embalming if necessary.
Assists students in using teaching tools and equipment, including autopsy trays and tables.
Performs routine repair and maintenance of teaching tools and equipment such as models, microscopes, projectors, tables, and trays.
Performs some histologic work such as cutting, staining and mounting tissue specimens.
Maintains some teaching and research records.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of handling cadavers and preparing them for teaching purposes.
Knowledge of embalming techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of the use and routine repair and maintenance of anatomical teaching tools and equipment.
Knowledge of techniques involved in cutting, staining, and mounting tissue specimens.
Knowledge of the use of reagents, stains, and chemical solutions.
Ability to embalm cadavers and perform other preparations necessary for teaching purposes.
Ability to use and perform routine maintenance and repair on anatomical and histological laboratory tools and equipment.
Ability to correctly use reagents, stains, and chemical solutions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience involving embalming techniques, basic histological procedure, and related laboratory tools and equipment maintenance.
