Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in assisting in the management of the campus bookstore, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares purchase orders or requisitions for stock, including textbooks, supplies, etc.
Verifies that textbooks and supplies received are the items ordered to ensure proper billing and payment.
Stores, and/or shelves textbooks and supplies as received.
Processes invoices for payment or returns.
Purchases used books from students and maintains records of buy-backs.
Operates cash register.
Coordinates sales promotion activities and approves advertising and display work.
Takes and verifies inventories.
Compiles and analyzes various reports.
Assists students, faculty and other customers in selecting textbooks, supplies, etc.
Shares in the supervision of store employees.
Performs related work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of inventory techniques and methods.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of ordering, returning and receiving procedures.
Ability to keep accurate records and make reports.
Ability to direct the work of others.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, faculty, public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Considerable experience as a sales clerk, supply clerk, or stores clerk.
