Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising assigned personnel; ordering books and departmental supplies for bookstore; executing administrative tasks and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises students and employees of lower classifications.
Inventories, orders, arranges and maintains textbooks and other supplies.
Submits daily report sheets for all invoices and freight bills.
Performs administrative duties such as: interviewing applicants for employment, maintaining time and leave records, and providing customer assistance.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic principles and methods of supervision.
Knowledge of inventory techniques and methods.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of the use of stock catalogs and the proper procedures for placing orders.
Ability to keep accurate records and make reports.
Ability to direct the work of others.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Successful completion of two years from an accredited college or university. Experience as a sales clerk, supply clerk, or stores clerk with some supervisory experience.
