Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in purchasing supplies, materials, and equipment, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Confers with division and departmental heads concerning the purchasing of needed supplies, materials, and equipment.
Processes all requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment, including reviewing requisitions for such items as bid instructions, purchase orders, vendor selection, specifications, and to insure monies are available for the purchase.
Maintains complete and updated vendor files and expands vendor sources.
Maintains inventory listing of equipment and makes subsequent reports.
Makes periodic review of outstanding purchase orders and contacts vendors for status when orders are overdue.
Coordinates maintenance of all office machines to insure proper working conditions.
Keeps records and makes reports.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and practices of purchasing.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of rules and regulations governing State purchasing contracts.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of supervision.
Ability to purchase necessary supplies, materials, and equipment in the right quality and quantity on a timely basis.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
Ability to keep records and make operational reports.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Successful completion of two years of college including or supplemented by courses in public or business administration. Experience in increasingly responsible office work involving purchasing.
