Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in planning carpentry shop activities and inspecting shop work. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Schedules and assigns workload.
Reviews plans or blueprints for scope of shop capabilities.
Estimates materials, man hours and cost requirements.
Inspects work performed for completeness and quality.
Operates machines or tools common to the carpenter's trade.
Orders shop materials.
Makes shop reports and maintains shop files.
Drives truck as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to plan and supervise carpentry shop activities.
Ability to inspect work for completeness and quality.
Ability to motivate employee work performance.
Ability to perform administrative activities.
Ability to operate machines and tools of the carpentry trade.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent, vocational school certificate in carpentry or completion of carpentry apprenticeship, plus two years carpentry experience or two years related experience (cabinetmaking, furniture making, etc.). Supervisory experience preferred.
