Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising and helping in the process of receiving, checking, distributing, and shipping of supplies and equipment to and from the central campus warehouse and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Processes materials for shipment by checking packing and label information, weighing material and selecting carrier, and preparing bill of lading.
Receives shipments, checks quantity against invoices, and stores materials or has shipment unloaded at other campus locations.
Supervises employees involved in loading and unloading materials, checking invoices, pulling stock, operating material handling equipment, and other warehouse and delivery duties.
Maintains shipping records.
Maintains an inventory of stock on hand of both short term storage and that which is replenished as needed.
Maintains responsibility for securing and arranging the storage of stock and the pulling of stock for issue.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of warehousing.
Knowledge of common carrier services, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of inventory methods and procedures.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to ship and receive materials by following standard warehousing principles and practices.
Ability to select carrier based on cost, services, route, etc.
Ability to maintain current inventory records.
Ability to direct the work of others.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to keep records and make reports.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in shipping, receiving, storing and stock inventory maintenance of which some experience should have been in a supervisory capacity. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
