Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in assisting the professional nursing staff and the clinical pharmacist by performing routine duties required of the Health Clinic facility, and related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with admission and discharge of patients.
Assists a licensed Pharmacist in the packaging, tabulation, inventory and destruction of drugs as prescribed by law.
Administers minor medical treatment under the supervision of a professional nurse.
Assists physicians as directed and under supervision.
Assists with laboratory tests done locally (in the Health Clinic facility) such as urinalysis-labstix, blood pressure, heart rate, weight, height, etc.
Maintains a patient filing system. Keeps records of patient activity and does correspondence for the Health Clinic professional nurses and doctors.
Sets up the infirmary for the nurses and doctors.
Dispenses drugs under the direct supervision of professional nurse or direct supervision of medical director.
Performs other tasks required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to administer minor medical treatment as directed by nurse and/or physician.
Ability to communicate well with the public.
Ability to perform routine clerical tasks.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school or possessing a General Education Development Test Certificate. Prior nursing training or employment in a health care facility or for a licensed physician required.
