Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in accessioning, processing and cataloging archival and museum collections between the Archives of Appalachia and the B. Carroll Reece Museum and performing other related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Accesses, processes and catalogs archival and museum collections.
Creates and manages collection files and databases.
Photographs objects.
Researches uncataloged collections.
Cleans artifacts.
Assists Directors in transferring and acquisitioning new collections.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic cataloging principles.
Knowledge of Appalachian culture and history.
Knowledge of computers including word processing skills.
Ability to problem solve and apply good judgment.
Ability to manage large projects.
Ability to set priorities.
Ability to take initiative.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to train and supervise student workers.
Ability to multi-task, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Bachelor’s degree required and two years of collections experience in a museum or with archives.
