Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in the repair and maintenance of custodial equipment and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains in accordance with manufacturer's specification and operation manuals custodial electrical and mechanical equipment.
Uses hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment to repair and maintain custodial equipment.
Observes and listens to custodial equipment in operation to locate cause of trouble.
Dismantles custodial equipment to gain access and remove defective parts.
Repairs or replaces defective parts using hand or power tools.
Starts equipment to test its performance.
Lubricates and cleans parts.
Operates common power and hand tools in making and repairing parts.
Maintains inventory, location and maintenance records of all custodial equipment.
Initiates purchase orders for parts.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of materials, methods, and principles used in the performance of custodial equipment maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of the use, care, and maintenance of required tools and equipment both specialized and common.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to use and operate required tools and equipment.
Ability to read and follow manufacturer's specifications and operations manuals.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Successful completion of the tenth grade. Experience in electronic and/or mechanical equipment repair and maintenance.
