Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in executing clerical tasks, supervising a group of employees of a lower classification engaged in operating an alphabetical and numeric keypunch machine, a keypunch verifier, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assigns and supervises work related to keypunch operations.
Supervises employees in the recording of data, verifying and checking accuracy, filing, coding and sorting data.
Supervises and/or performs a variety of clerical tasks.
Instructs new employees in the established routines and procedures of machine operations and work details.
Plans the flow of work and initiates procedures in accordance with established plans and procedures.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of supervision.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in the operation and care of keypunch, verifying and tabulating machines.
Ability to perform a variety of responsible clerical tasks.
Ability to supervise and offer instructions to employees.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to satisfactorily perform on an alphabetical and numerical keypunch machine.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Responsible experience in the operation of a keypunch machine and other data-entry equipment.
