Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in servicing and maintaining the equipment used in training dental hygienist and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Repairs and/or replaces mechanical working parts on dental equipment such as dental chairs, handpieces, manikins, dentoforms, etc.
Repairs and/or replaces switches, wiring and other electrical parts and components.
Maintains air compressors, water-air separators, and power units.
Requisitions parts and supplies.
Establishes and follows a regular schedule of maintenance.
Installs new equipment as needed.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic electrical repair and electronics, plumbing and hydraulics.
Knowledge of mechanical maintenance.
Knowledge of the required tools and repair equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot problem situations and determine proper course of action.
Ability to establish and follow a maintenance schedule.
Ability to perform mechanical and related maintenance work.
Ability to use the required tools and equipment.
Ability to read and follow schematic and other diagrams.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Training in dental equipment service. Experience involving electric, plumbing, hydraulic and other maintenance.
