Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in executing various tasks in one or more areas of student financial aid including loans, grants, and scholarships, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Processes applications through established review and routing procedures.
Talks with applicants explaining the program or programs available.
Assists students with applications corrections and processing problems.
Maintains contacts with prospective applicants, parents, and lending and grant agencies by telephone and through written correspondence.
Maintains individual folders and filing system.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of gathering, assembling and explaining data.
Ability to talk with applicants and explain available programs in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to assist applicants in completing forms, correcting applications, and working out problems.
Ability to type at an acceptable rate of speed.
Ability to work with minimum supervision on moderately difficult to complex clerical tasks.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in moderately difficult to complex clerical tasks involving personal contact.
