Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising a group of utility workers maintaining the grounds on campus and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises personnel engaged in cutting grass, trimming and pruning shrubs and trees, planting flowers, and a variety of other tasks associated with grounds maintenance and landscaping.
Supervises personnel in the proper use of tools and equipment.
Delivers and distributes equipment and supplies to employees.
Instructs new personnel in the approved courses of procedure and the proper methods involved in the job tasks.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in ground maintenance activities.
Knowledge of basic landscaping procedures.
Ability to direct the work of others.
Ability to use and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and other related equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to instruct and supervise others of lower classification.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Completion of the tenth grade. Experience in ground maintenance, gardening, landscaping, or related areas. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
