Definition 

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in keeping private home clean and orderly, doing light yard work, and performing related work as required. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Dusts furniture and floors, cleans bathroom and bathroom fixtures, and vacuums floors and carpets.

Washes and irons clothes and puts them in proper place.

Washes dishes and keeps kitchen neat and orderly.

Vacuums swimming pool.

Pulls weeds, trims grass and waters shrubs.

Makes lists of needed home repairs and notifies proper person.

Serves at parties, receptions, etc.

Performs related work as required. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of procedures and practices and use of equipment involved in housekeeping for a family.

Knowledge of light yard work involving the use of some simple hand tools.

Knowledge of the proper operations to maintain an easy flow of activity in the house.

Knowledge of the proper procedures for serving at parties and receptions.

Ability to operate equipment involved in housecleaning.

Ability to do light yard work.

Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions under guidance and direction.

Ability to serve at various social functions.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the family and other employees. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in house cleaning.
